Kosta Alex was a visionary sculptor born in the heart of New York City in 1925.
Following his service in the war, Alex set forth on a transformative journey to Paris, supported by the GI Bill, where he continued to hone his artistic talents at the illustrious Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Amidst the bohemian ambiance of Montparnasse, he became an integral part of the city’s artistic milieu.
It was in this crucible of creativity that Jean Planque, the esteemed advisor to the Beyeler Gallery, recognized the exceptional prowess of Kosta Alex. This acknowledgement paved the way for Alex’s debut solo exhibition at the prestigious Galerie Claude Bernard in 1964, where his remarkable bronze sculptures, notably the ‘Man with a Hat,’ took center stage. Over the years, his artistry graced galleries in Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and the United States, resonating with audiences worldwide.
Kosta Alex’s ingenuity extended beyond sculpture as he mastered the art of assemblage.
